Groundhog Day, again

by Lillian Ireland

Does it kind of feel like Groundhog Day when the days just seem to spin?

A week, a month, a year, repeat; seems like the beginning again!

This treadmill that we’re running on has left many people in tears,

continually picking up pieces while facing recycled fears.

Changes evolve, like the masks we wear and whom we can embrace,

contact tracing, all sorts of restrictions, things we have to face.

Still, the reckoning we’re doing as each day passes on,

gives opportunities to grow, personally and well beyond.

We have seen what can get done when hope overcomes our fear,

who would have thought it possible; vaccines within one year?

So, with Covid’s unfolding impact, keep believing in kindness and hope,

pillars of strength as we all carry on; layered virtues which help us cope.
